The Child's Drawing

A child, a girl with long blonde hair, is standing at a window looking out. She is holding a large sheet of paper. There is a house drawn on the paper in pencil, the kind of house I used to live in. The door has no knob and the windows have no frames. I ask her where she got it from, the drawing. She says it was in my room when I arrived, but she doesn't remember what I looked like. She hands me the paper with one hand and a pencil with the other, for me to draw on it.

I take the pencil and begin to add a small tree behind the house, the kind of tree that grows in the space between the walls when it rains. The girl looks at what I've done and tells me she knows where I live now. The drawing is finished.
